Drive BC says Highway 97 south of Prince George is now partially open.

This follows a near 10-hour closure between Coruval and Patterson Roads as a result of a three-vehicle collision that ended in one person's death.

There's single-lane alternating traffic at this hour with the road expected to be fully open by 10 p.m.

Crews are working to remove logs off the road that fell from a logging truck involved with the incident shortly after 9 a.m. today (Feb. 20).

Another person from the collision was sent to hospital with undetermined injuries.

A motor vehicle incident on Highway 97 south of Prince George this morning (Feb. 20) resulted in one death.

According to RCMP Traffic Services, one person died following a three-vehicle collision involving a logging truck between Coruval and Patterson Roads in the Buckhorn area of city limits.

Prince George RCMP and first responders attended the scene after 9 a.m. today.

When they arrived, they determined a logging truck and two other vehicles, including an SUV and a pick-up truck, collided and caused the logging truck to spill its load onto the road.

The investigation into the fatal collision is still ongoing, but another person was also sent to hospital for undetermined injuries.

Local Mounties, Prince George Regional Traffic Services (PGRTS), Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement officers, WorkSafeBC and the BC Coroners' Service are all at the Highway 97 site.

The road remains closed in both directions with an estimated time of re-opening at 8 p.m. tonight as logs still need to be removed.

There's no official detour in place, however, Drive BC suggests commuters to take Highway 16 east to Highway 5 south, then to Highway 24 west to continue on Highway 97 south, an additional travel time of roughly five hours.

Anyone with more information about the fatal incident is asked to contact PGRTS in Quesnel at 250-992-9211.
